HISTORY OF OUR COMPANY
Founder of BV Tortilla Equipment, Benjamin Varela, was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and came to the United States to pursue a better life for his family. He invented his first tortilla machine in 1970. From then on he continued to perfect his unique tortilla press as none existed in the tortilla industry at the time. The tortilla press Ben Varela invented produced 1,200 tortillas per hour.
Today, our tortilla presses can produce up to 5,760 tortillas per hour and easily outperforms most of today’s competition in terms of performance, as well as in quality and reliability. BV Tortilla continues to be family owned and operated. Our company’s expertise comes from having owned and operated, and worked in tortilla factories; and at one point making up to 30,000 dozen tortillas per day! And having worked with many kinds of machines we are confident our presses give our customers a unique competitive edge.
BV Tortilla Equipment continues with its vision to grow and improve the tortilla industry with its unique machinery.
With over 50 years of combined experience in the tortilla industry, our company has become an expert in the field, and our openness to new technology and ideas keep us competitive and innovative.

Benjamin Varela
Mr. Varela started his career in the tortilla business in 1976 out of a small warehouse in El Paso, Texas fighting for every customer that would give him a chance to prove his product was unmatched. His brand, La Mejor, became a household name. His passion for his profession led him to build his own tortilla presses because he believed what the market offered at the time did not produce a quality flour tortilla that his customers sought.

Victor Escamilla
Victor Escamilla has worked with BV Tortilla Equipment since it opened its doors in 2000. In those 18 years, he’s learned the ins and outs of the business and is knowledgeable in the fabrication of tortilla equipment and making flour and corn tortillas from start to finish. His role in the company includes sales, operations, and training new customers that make the switch to our presses.
Mr. Varela is still thriving in the tortilla business but now focusing on equipment design and improving his tortilla presses that made his brand recognizable.
